'Serial killer' claims fifth victim in South Carolina
CNN) -- A 15-year-old South Carolina girl who was shot earlier this week by a man authorities say fits the description of a serial killer has died, police said Saturday.
Police say the suspect may be driving a light gray or champagne tan 1991-94 two-door Ford Explorer.

Abby Tyler died at 11:25 a.m. Saturday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, said Chief Rick Turner of the Gaffney Police Department.
Her father, Stephen Tyler, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting Thursday in the family-run furniture and appliance store, Tyler Home Center, in Gaffney.
On Friday, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office released a second sketch of a man believed to have fatally shot five people in less than a week.
"Let me say that under the FBI's definition of a serial killer, yes, we have a serial killer," Sheriff Bill Blanton said in Gaffney, a town in the county of about 54,000 residents 50 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina.
He would not detail what has led investigators to conclude the shootings are linked or how they received the description of the suspect that has led to the two sketches. The first shooting happened Saturday, when peach farmer Kline W. Cash, 63, was found dead by his wife in their home, said Leigh Caldwell, a victims services coordinator for the sheriff's office.
Blanton said Cash's home may have been robbed.
On Wednesday, the bound and shot bodies of 83-year-old Hazel Linder and her 50-year-old daughter, Gena Linder Parker, were found in the mother's home, where she lived alone.
"We're still trying to determine if anything's missing from there," Blanton said.

About 100 investigators from North and South Carolina were working the case, Blanton said.
"I think our community has a right to be concerned," he said. "We're concerned. We're dealing with a man that's killed four people."

He urged residents to check on relatives, especially those who live alone. "We're asking the people in our community to be vigilant, to report anything."
But he cautioned against taking that too far. "Our concern is that people are going to start shooting at shadows," he said

The Jaguar range includes the XF, XFR and XKR models while the Land Rover brands coming to India will be Rover Discovery 3, Range Rover Sport and the basic Range Rover. The models will sell for between Rs63 lakh and Rs92 lakh.
“It’s something that’s quite memorable in the context of our history and heritage,” Tata told a news conference in Mumbai. “JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) has been well received and well established in India (in the past), but over the years this brand has been disconnected.”
He added that the brands may have become casualties of the world economic downturn, but he, as an Indian, was extremely proud to be owning them.
In terms of pricing, Tata has positioned the Jaguar and the Land Rover in the “super luxury” segment against high-end offerings from luxury car makers such as Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, or BMW, and Daimler AG of Germany.
To begin with, Tata Motors would retail the cars through the company’s flagship showroom at Ceejay House in Mumbai. Subsequently, it will be appointing independent dealers in five-six other metros, including Delhi and Bangalore, after gauging the initial response. Tata said there is no plan to assemble the cars in India and it will continue to be sold as a completely built model. Imported car models in India attract a duty in excess of 105%.
Financing for the cars will be offered by Tata Capital Ltd, HDFC Bank Ltd and ICICI Bank Ltd, company officials said. Deliveries will commence by the middle of next month.

TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he wants to engage President Obama in "negotiations" before international media, a semi-official Iranian news outlet reported on Saturday.

"I will go to the United Nations and will invite Obama to negotiations," Ahmadinejad said, adding that such talks would be "in front of the international media, not a sit-down behind closed doors in order to talk about matters."
The Obama administration has sought dialogue with Iran but also criticized the government for its handling of unrest after disputed presidential elections.
Last week, Obama said Iran's government must justify itself not in the eyes of the United States, but in the opinion of its own people.
"A sizable percentage of the Iranian people themselves ... consider this election illegitimate," he said at a White House news conference. "It is not too late for the Iranian government to recognize that there is a peaceful path that will lead to stability and prosperity."
Initially, Obama was criticized by Republicans such as Sen. John McCain of Arizona and Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina for taking a "timid and passive" tone in speaking out against the growing wave of arrests, violence and deaths of pro-democracy activists.
Ahmadinejad said he wants others to stop "meddling" in the internal affairs of Iran.

Music manager Allen Klein, whose clients included the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, died Saturday after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease, his publicist said. Klein was 77.
The son of Jewish immigrants from Hungary, Klein founded his firm Allen Klein & Co. in the late 1950s before the label evolved into ABKCO Music & Records in New York. The independent label holds the copyrights to music by the Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke, the Animals, the Kinks, Chubby Checker, Bobby Womack and hundreds of others.
Klein represented dozens of artists, including Sam Cooke, the Animals, Bobby Darin and Herman's Hermits. He changed the music industry when he represented Sam Cooke in negotiations with RCA, winning the artist control of his own master recordings.
Known for a tenacious and often blunt style in negotiations, Klein's greatest coups were inking contracts with the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, though both relationships ended in legal battles.
ABKCO built up a catalog of copyrights to more than 2,000 songs, including much of the Stones' 1960s catalog. Klein retained ownership of those titles even after splitting with the Stones. In 1969, John Lennon persuaded the other Beatles that Klein should take over the group's business affairs, but Paul McCartney resisted the move and some music historians say the appointment hastened the Beatles' split.
Lennon later fell out with Klein, who was thought to be the target of the former Beatle's 1974 song "Steel and Glass."
Defending his tough style, Klein told Playboy magazine in 1971: "The music business is about 99 percent no-talent losers who can't stand a winner in their midst."
In 1971, Klein worked with Ringo Starr to organize the "Concert for Bangladesh" at Madison Square Garden, one of the first major benefit concerts of the rock era.
Late in his career, Klein agreed to license a sample of a Rolling Stones song to the British group the Verve for their hit single "Bittersweet Symphony." But after the song was released, ABKCO successfully argued in court that the Verve had used too much of the sample and won 100 percent of the song's royalties.
Klein is survived by his wife Betty, their three children and four grandchildren. Services will be held in New York on Tuesday

Registration ended at 6 p.m. Saturday. Officials will now "scrub" all entries to eliminate duplicates and those they suspect may have been registered using software that tickets scalpers use to generate multiple hits.
A random drawing will follow. The winning 8,750 registrants will receive an e-mail Sunday after 11 a.m. (2 p.m. ET), AEG Live said.
"I know I'll be hitting the 'refresh' button on my inbox over and over again," said Jackie Flower, an arts student in San Diego, California.
The e-mail will assign the selected registrants a unique code and direct them to a designated distribution center away from the Staples Center.
There, they will each receive two tickets to either the memorial service at the Staples Center arena or a simulcast of the event at the adjacent Nokia Theater LA Live, AEG said.
Jackson's family has still not announced the singer's burial arrangements, saying only that it will hold a private ceremony ahead of the massive public memorial service Tuesday.
Journalists staked out several possible burial locations. A long line of television satellite trucks remained parked outside the Hollywood Hills Forest Lawn Cemetery in case it was chosen by the family, but there has been no word from cemetery officials.
Police set up metal barricades around the front lawn, creating spaces for media and fans. Two state trooper cruisers idled at the Hall of Liberty inside the grounds, which contains a 1,200-seat auditorium.

A day after surprising even her closest friends by announcing she would step down as Alaska governor more than a year before her term was up, the controversial hockey mom was still keeping details of her future plans under wrap. But in a statement posted on Palin's Facebook account, she suggested that she had bigger plans and a national agenda she planned to push after she resigns at the end of the month.
"I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint," she said.
Palin also cast herself as a victim and blasted the media, calling the response to her announcement "predictable" and out of touch.
"How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country," the statement said. "And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make."
Palin's personal spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, confirmed to The Associated Press that the Facebook posting was written by the governor.
The abruptness of her announcement and the mystery surrounding her plans has fed widespread speculation. But Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims.
"To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as 'fact' that Governor Palin resigned because she is 'under federal investigation' for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation," Van Flein said in a statement. "This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law."

A Disney World monorail driver was killed after colliding with another train at the Orlando, Fla., park, according to officials.
The driver died early Sunday when he rear-ended another train at about 2 a.m. EDT.
The operator of the other monorail train was taken to the hospital, but was uninjured, according to a statement from the Reedy Creek Fire Department.
The first driver, who was not identified, had to be cut out of his cab and was pronounced dead at the scene, CFNews13.com reported.
Two employees and five guests on both trains were not injured.
Witnesses said the crash took place on the EPCOT track near the Disney World parking lot as people were leaving the park following a Fourth of July fireworks show.
"Today, we mourn the loss of our fellow cast member. Our hearts go out to his family and to those who have lost a friend and co-worker," Mike Griffin, Disney World's vice president of public affairs, said in a statement.
"The safety of our guests and cast members is always our top priority. The monorail is out of service as we continue to work closely with law enforcement to determine what happened and the appropriate next steps," Griffin said.
It was the first fatal accident in the Disney World monorail's 38-year history, according to CFNews13.com,.

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. — A pedestrian suspension bridge collapsed into a lake in northwest Indiana after a Fourth of July celebration late Saturday, injuring at least 16 people, emergency personnel said.
Ross Township firefighter Perry Herzog told The Times newspaper of Munster that no one was killed, but emergency workers had to rescue "quite a few people" from the water.
The wooden bridge collapsed at Hidden Lake Park in Merrillville, about 45 miles southeast of Chicago, around 10 p.m. as spectators were leaving a fireworks display.
At least 16 people were taken to local hospitals and more may have gone on their own, Herzog said.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, estimating that the roughly 90-foot-long bridge was full of people before it fell.
"We were walking across and everybody just stopped ... we heard two snaps, and we all went in the water," Seth Argullin, 29, of Merrillville, told the Post-Tribune.
"People were grasping and hanging onto the bridge itself," Robert Walker, of Merrillville, told The Times.
About 50 emergency vehicles responded, and dive teams helped pull victims from the water. A helicopter was brought in to provide light for emergency workers.
Merrillville police wouldn't provide information about the accident Saturday night. Dispatchers said details would be released later.

Wayne Mackey, a police detective Warren, Ohio, has seen a lot during his years on the force, but nothing prepared him for what happened a few weeks ago, when he was interviewing a witness on a recent murder case.
At one point in the interview, the woman, wearing a skimpy tank top, leaned over and out of her bosom crept a baby squirrel that was nestled in the woman's cleavage. The woman did not seem to be phased, and gently put the small creature back inside her shirt and continues talking to the detective.

Teacher Sentenced for Sex With Students
A former music teacher arrested for allegedly having sex with two students in a classroom will serve nine months in jail and five years' probation. Ranee Sue Proper, 42, was sentenced June 3 after pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual conduct. Her name will also be placed on the Michigan State Sex Offender Registry.

ELK GROVE, Calif. (July 2) - A class of fifth graders in California got a shocking crash course on the birds and the bees courtesy of their teacher and an X-rated home video she accidentally included in a DVD of classroom memories.
The error was not caught until after the DVDs were distributed to the students and their families. Parents tell CBS 13 Sacramento that the woman is a good teacher who made an honest but embarrassing mistake.
According to the station, the offending DVD starts with a menu screen that displays various school trips and functions. Click on one of them and "you see kids in a classroom sharing stories. They then start clapping and the video suddenly cuts to sex."
The teacher, according to CBS 13, called one family's home the day after the DVD was sent and apologized profusely, "asking the man and his wife to call every parent they knew to stop their kids from seeing the DVD too."
"All she could say was that it was a horrible mix-up," said one father.
CBS 13 reports that the local school district is investigating the case, but that it is unlikely that teacher, who is well-liked and respected, will lose her job.
But there is good news in all of this. School officials say a new, more appropriate, DVD will be sent to students in the coming days.
